Create and Take Spring Herb Garden
Date: Tuesday, April 15
Time: 10:00 – 11:30 am
Fee: $60/person
Dreaming of fresh, homegrown vegetables and herbs, but short on space or good quality soil? Container gardening is the perfect solution! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn everything you need to know to grow thriving plants in containers — covering the best soil mixes, container options, space considerations, fertilizers sunlight and watering to maximize your harvest. Plus, you’ll get to plant your very own herb container to take home and enjoy all season long. Coffee and a scone/muffin platter will be served.
Elaine Madansky Biography
Elaine Madansky serves as the director of Farm Operations at Elawa Farm, now embarking on her seventh growing season with the foundation. After years in the corporate marketing research world, Elaine made the bold decision to leave it behind and dedicate herself to sustainable agriculture. She began as an intern at The Talking Farm in Skokie, followed by work at Prairie Wind Family Farm in Grayslake. She further enhanced her expertise by earning an associate degree in sustainable agriculture and greenhouse production from the College of Lake County. Elaine also holds an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Elaine finds joy in the challenges and opportunities of farming, continually growing programs at Elawa Farm to foster community connection and sustainability.
Spring Nature Walk and Warm Soup

Time: Walk: 10 – 11 am; Soup: 11 – 11:30
Fee: $60/person
Class Description: This walk will include discussion of the history, ecological restoration and regional importance of Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve. Spring ecological activity, the plants and animals of Middlefork Savanna, and the people who steward the preserve will be the main topics covered during the tour, providing an overview of the conservation history and significance of this treasured preserve.
