The Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund

Donate

Dear Friends,

We sincerely thank you for your support of the Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund Gala. Thanks to our generous donors, we raised more than $1.3M to support sarcoma cancer research.

The fund has now become a permanent endowment at the Northwestern Memorial Foundation, providing a perpetual source of sarcoma research funding. Dr. Seth Pollack is utilizing the fund to launch new and novel immunotherapies for patients with advanced sarcoma and leveraging unique features of sarcoma immunobiology to improve immunotherapies for all patients with cancer. His work targeting the cancer-specific protein NY-ESO-1 using adoptive cellular therapies and vaccines has led to important breakthroughs in our understanding of the sarcoma immune microenvironment.

Thank you to all who have graciously donated to help us achieve our goals. Please stay tuned                                                                                            for updated information on our progress in the fight against sarcoma.

                                                         Warmly,

                                                        David and Jamie Schwartz

In memory of Adrienne Smith

Since David Schwartz and Pete Vilim founded Waterton in 1995 as a real estate investment and property management company, they have made philanthropy a priority and created a culture that is committed to volunteerism and charitable giving. Waterton encourages all employees to be positive forces in the communities in which they live and operate.

Adrienne Smith was one of those devoted employees. During her 16 years at Waterton, Adrienne established herself as a valued leader, mentor and friend. She was passionate about Notre Dame Athletics, her alma mater, and she was a leading cultural ambassador at Waterton. Adrienne co-founded Waterton Women, an affinity group focused on creating better professional development opportunities and networking events for women across the company. Her dedication, loyalty, knowledge and unwavering positivity in the face of adversity, were and continue to be an inspiration to all of those around her.

Adrienne passed away at 42 years old on July 8, 2019, after a courageous four-year battle with sarcoma. David, being a sarcoma survivor himself, and Pete, whose family has been touched by cancer, created The Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund in her memory.

Your gift to The Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund supports patient care and helps to accelerate sarcoma research, creating better answers for tomorrow's patients. Through fueling new drug protocols, surgical procedures and radiation therapies, you are helping to build more effective treatments and minimize the long-term side effects experienced by patients.
